Standing Firm: The faction, through spokesman Aliyu Ango Kagara, declared, βNo amount of intimidation from the state government, including the use of some so-called politically twisted courts or legal officers, can derail our focused leadership.β
Zamfara grapples
The group, consisting of ten lawmakers suspended by the Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki-led Assembly, has been operating as a parallel legislative body since April 2025. They argue their suspension was illegal, pointing to their earlier impeachment of Moriki by 18 out of 24 members in 2024. Gummi, representing Gummi 1 Constituency, has led the faction in issuing ultimatums to Governor Lawal, including a one-month deadline to address rampant insecurity and a demand to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill, which they deem invalid.
The factionβs actions have sparked legal and political debates, with Moriki condemning their sittings as unconstitutional and a matter currently before the courts.
